Shivam School of Dance aims to teach this art form
in a disciplined and simple manner
that will mould each student into a Dancer

The Teacher

Saipriya Rahulan was initiated into the art of Bharathnatyam at the tender age of five, while living in Nigeria. Furthering her training in Sri Lanka she performed her Arangetram in 1992 at the age of ten under Kalasuri Vasugy Jegatheeswaran. After migrating to Australia, Saipriya came under the tutelage of Anandavalli in 1993 as a student of the Lingalayam Dance Academy. She has taken part in many productions. Joining the Lingalayam Dance Company in 2001, the intervening years saw her blossom into a disciplined and dedicated dancer. She also taught at the Lingalayam Dance Academy. She then went on to establish the Shivam School of Dance in 2009.

Having learnt Bharathanatyam for more than 20 years, Saipriya understands the dedication and commitment needed to learn such an art form whilst juggling other important aspects of life in a western country. Her teaching style moulds students to develop a balance whilst experiencing the beauty of this art form. Saipriya hopes to in still in her students the passion, the discipline and perseverance for Bharathanatyam her gurus have passed on to her.
